Abstract

In this guest lecture, we will explore the exciting world of visual effects (VFX) production, and how it relates to the CS380 Introduction to Computer Graphics course. We will examine the various applications of computer graphics and VFX in today's film and entertainment industries. Through examples from popular movies and TV shows, we will see how VFX professionals use their skills to create stunning visual effects that captivate audiences around the world. We will also discuss how the skills learned in CS380 can be applied to real-world VFX projects, and explore the tools and techniques used by VFX artists to create their work. Finally, we will touch on the latest trends in the VFX industry, and highlight some of the challenges faced by VFX artists today.

Bio

Suzi Kim is a researcher at Wētā Digital (Unity) and has contributed to the production of Avatar 2: The Way of Water. She received her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in the School of Computing from KAIST in 2012, 2016, and 2022, respectively, under the supervision of Professor Sunghee Choi. Prior to her current position, she worked as a full-time developer at Prezi in Hungary from 2013 to 2014, where she contributed to the development of the iOS Prezi application. She also worked as an associate at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, where she participated in the development of Android-based CAD applications.
